Hunger protesters in Kano have been called upon to stop raising the flag of Russia during the ongoing nationwide protest describing it as a treasonable offence that disrepute the true intentions of the outing.

The call was made at a special press briefing on Tuesday by the Nigeria Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council in Kano led by the Vice President of group Balarabe Rufai.

He further condemned the wanton destruction of live and property that marred the protests in some northern cities.

“The ongoing protest as we are all witnessed have been characterized with looting and destruction of public and private properties above all, and the most unfortunate event
was the flagging up Russian flag which amounts to undemocratic, unconstitutional,
unpatriotic leading to treasonable offences.

“This scenario has awakened all meaningful
Nigerians that there are hidden forces working day and night to brings destruction that
will lead to violent disintegration of our dear country Nigeria.

“Nigeria: A Nation of Promise Nigeria stands as a beacon of potential and promise on the African continent.

“Our country is blessed with vast natural resources, a vibrant youth population, and the potential to become the second-largest economy in the world by 2050.

“By the same year
Nigeria will also be the third largest in population following India and China. With these potentialities and inevitable destiny for greatness Nigeria has become the envy of the
world Yet, despite these attributes, we face significant challenges that demand urgent attention and action” he stated.

The group further called on the leadership of the Red and Green Chambers to take decisive action on bringing back to life the local and private refineries to full function.

“It is imperative that they engage with the leadership of NNPC limited to ensure that fuel prices are adjusted to be affordable to the masses before the end of this year.

“It is our believe once our local refineries, both public and private, are working, there will be no need for subsidy as crude oil is our naturally endowed resource.

“Petroleum is a life wire to socio-economic activities of all Nigerians once the sector is free of corruption and deceit, serving the common interest of the generality of Nigerians, not the so-called cabals, Nigerian predicaments will be history” he stated.
