The recent plot by the Kano state government to get the National Chairman of ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) Abdullahi Ganduje suspended from the party in his ward has become dramatic in the state.
Some individuals led by one Halliru Gwanzo who claims to be the Legal Adviser of the APC in Ganduje Ward addressed a press conference in Kano on Monday to announce the suspension of Abdullahi Ganduje for charges levelled against him by the Kano state government bordering around corruption.
In a swift reaction, the APC leadership in Kano under it’s Chairman Abdullahi Abbas dismissed the claims by the said leaders of the ward. He announced a six months suspension of the culprits and set up a committee to investigate them for anti-party activities.
The Kano APC Chairman also said that they, at the state level, have since adopted the decisions of the local government party leaders, and are now investigating the anti-party activities of the culprits.
“We have evidence of meetings between the state government officials and those that suspended the National Chairman, and SWC has agreed to sanction them for six months and they now stand suspended” the chairman said.
More so, the Dawakin Tofa local government APC chairman Inusa Sulaiman Dawanau also confirmed to newsmen that the culprits were caught in anti-party activities with records of their meetings with the ruling opposition in the state, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) exposed in the deal.
Later in the day, 27 exco members from the Ganduje Ward addressed an emergency press conference at the Kano APC headquarters, led by Ahmad Muhammad Ganduje, the Ward Chairman of the party.
They dismissed the claims and insisted that the culprits impersonated and tarnished the image of the party and the National Chairman.
As a result, the ward leaders have vowed to sue those identified as the perpetrators to court for impersonation and defamation of character. What is more is that, those who announced the suspension were not members of the APC, the ward chairman declared.
One Halliru Gwanzo told newsmen that he is the Legal Adviser of the ward whose person was impersonated and he was not aware of what happened.
“The attention of the Ganduje Ward Executive Committee Members and that of Dawakin Tofa Local Government has been drawn to a purported suspension of the National Chairman of the Party, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, by unfornuately, non-APC members in the Ward.
“Those who addressed the press conference were sponsored by the NNPP state government, and from the record of the Party at the Ward, Local Government and State, are not card- carrying members of the APC”.
“The purported suspension was null and void, and would have no any effect on the National Chairman”.
“The Ward and Local Government Executives having identified the persons involved in this unfortunate situation, have already prepared to charge them to court for impersonation and calculated attempt to embarrass and dent the image of the Party and that of the National Chairman”.
Muhammad therefore called on all Party members to disregard the purported suspension and remain calm.
Meanwhile, the Ganduje Ward APC leaders are heading to court to challenge the said impersonators as the public is left in awe waiting for the next action from the perpetrators of the suspension of the APC National Chairman.
Political leaders in Nigeria that have been affected by this kind of move in the past include Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Prince Uche Secondus, and Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
