The leadership of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has expressed appreciation during the inauguration of an ultra modern laundromat with 40 state of the art washing machines, donated by the ASPIRA Corporation following a collaboration of the duo to ease life on campus for students.
Answering questions from newsmen at at the event, the Spokesperson of the organization, Linda Aguacha told newsmen that the laundry facility is donated as a corporate social responsibility for students to wash their clothes and to alleviate their difficulties.
“This is part of our social responsibility because we want the students to focus on what is important, focus on their education and their personal growth, that is why we donate this so that they can wash their clothes for free. Laundry does not have to be a problem any more.
“We hope that they will enjoy it and use it very well for the betterment of themselves, and I hope it will last very long.
“This is a self service state of the art laundry with two sections. We have the section with the washing machines, where you will go and put your clothes and it washes them for you, while you wait aside reviewing your book. When the clothes are washed you then take them to the dryer and it will dry them for you, free of charge, no fees attached.
“We also have another section meant for those who are not familiar with the washing machine and prefer to wash with their hands. So there are two sections here, regardless of what your preference is when you do your laundry” she explained.
Although she did not reveal the amount of money spent in the project, she however stated that it is a nationwide project ASPIRA is undertaking to ease life for students living on campuses across the country.
She added that the same facility has been donates in the University of Lagos (UniLag), University of Ibadan (Uni Ibadan) and now they are doing the same in Bayero University Kano (BUK).
Earlier in his inaugural speech, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Adamu Sagir expressed appreciation with the cooperation they are enjoying with the company. He thanked them for generously donating the laundry facility to the university.
“Your commitment to social responsibility and community development is exemplary and deeply appreciated. This project is not merely a laundry facility; it is a testament to the positive impact that corporate partnerships can have on educational institutions.
“By addressing a practical need within our university, ASPIRA has demonstrated a profound understanding of the holistic needs of our academic community.
“The new laundry facility will provide our students and staff with convenient, efficient and modern laundry services.
“This is more than a convenience; it is an upgrade to the quality of life on our campus.
“Students will now be able to focus more on their studies, extracurricular activities, and personal development, knowing that their laundry needs are well taken care of.
“This facility will also serve as a model for sustainable and student-centered infrastructure development in universities across the country.For Bayero University Kano, ASPIRA Nigeria Limited is indeed a friend in need.
“Over the years, the university has benefitted from the company’s magnanimity in several areas. Some of them include: Provision of customized reflective vests to the registered bikers that are conducting their businesses in the university, provided our students with mobile laundry services in 2022 when the university was facing acute water shortages on both campuses, provision of gifts to 200 special guests and 500 students during the 2023 convocation ceremony and payment of scholarship to 60 students of the university through the Student Union Government” he stated among others.
He also added that the company had provided 500 sets of security gear to security personnel consisting reflective vests, raincoats, boots, and caps.
