Senator Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial District, has commended governor Abba Yusuf of Kano state for approving N2.5bn to revive the Kafin-Chiri irrigation scheme.

Senator Sumaila in a statement he signed, said the scheme will significantly contribute to the enhancement of agricultural productivity in the state.

“The extension of the Kano irrigation scheme around Garko Sumaila axis is a pivotal initiative that will create over 500 direct and indirect job opportunities, thereby uplifting livelihoods and promoting economic growth.

“The project’s dedication to bolstering food production in Kano state deserves praise as it underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring food security and prosperity for its citizens.

“I am therefore, encouraging farmers in the region to seize this opportunity and leverage the reactivated irrigation scheme to increase their agricultural output.

“I urged the farming community to collaborate with the authorities, embrace modern farming techniques, and capitalize on this generous gesture by the government.

The senator assured that by working hand in hand with the government, farmers in the area can maximize the benefits of the reactivated irrigation scheme to propel Kano State towards greater agricultural self-sufficiency and prosperity.

“The people of the area should join heads in celebrating this landmark initiative and strive towards a future of abundant harvests and economic prosperity,” the statement ended.
