Motorist entering Kano from Zaria road have on Saturday cried out having to wait in hold up for about three hours to enter the ancient city.

The hold up was caused by an emergency repair of the Dotsa bridge area before reaching the entry Kano flyover at Na’ibawa, handled by a contractor.

The repair work distorted smooth flow of traffic along the route thereby leading to motorists spending hours to access the the city. This even worsens the bad situation of the place.

Some of the motorists who spoke to this reporter called on the government to complete the Kaduna – Kano road which had been under constriction since the immediate past regime of president Muhammadu Buhari.

Some of them alleged that the contract might have been abandoned all this while and this has led to discomfort and unnecessary delay of traffic flow along the route.

Others complained that when such emergency repairs are to take place, it should not be during the rush hours but late in the night when traffic might have deserted the route.

“This is part of the Abuja – Kaduna – Kano renovation and expansion but it appears they have abandoned the work. Just look at how bad this route has turned, the situation of which has worsen with the persistent rainfall.

“The government should take contracts like these serious as they directly affect the lives and welfare of citizens, they can’t just begin a multi billion Naira project like this and abandon it subjecting people’s lives to difficulties and danger” Hamisu Bello, a motorist stated.

“Since this Kano to Kaduna project was abandoned, this place has turned into a trap and with the raining season, the situation has worsened.

“Even as an emergency repair of the damaged place at Dotsa is taking place, I want to advise those concerned to be doing this kind of repair work in the night when there is no traffic flow.

“Just look at what this repair work during a rush hour like this had caused. We have arrived early enough from Kaduna but have to spend another three hours before we enter the town” Mudi Direba, another motorist cried out.

As the repair continued with the hold generated, hundreds of people are left with the option of trekking past the area to be able to access transportation to the town for those arriving, and out of the town, for those leaving Kano through the route.
