The Shari’a Police in Kano, called Kano State Hizbah has on Tuesday confirmed arresting seven women accused of stealing fabrics and other textile materials at the popular textile market Kantin Kwari in Kano.
The Commandant of the Hisbah Board, Kano Municipal Area Command, said the arrests were made following the apprehension of a constabulary police officer, who was conniving with the thieves to perpetrate the crime.
Commenting on the development, Chairman of the Kantin Kwari Market, Hamisu Sa’adu Dogon Nama said the suspects have been terrorizing the market for a while especially due to the congestion.
He commended the Hisbah officials for the operation that led to the arrest of the officials.
Some of the women confessed committing the crime while speaking to newsmen.
They also confirmed that they usually visit the market from neighboring states to perpetrate their criminal acts.
