The Kano state governor, Abba Yusuf has promise to completely overhaul the educational sector in the state.
He stated this during a grand ceremony to declare a state of emergency on education in the state on Saturday.
Yusuf said the decision has become necessary due to the current decay in the system and the infrastructure which has led to poor output in the sector.
The process of overhauling the system will include both the academic system as well as the infrastructure.
Governor Yusuf also noted that in an effort to improve girl child education in the state over seventy
Luxurious buses have been rehabilitated and assigned to be conveying the girl child to secondary schools across the local government areas within the metropolitan area of the state.
“Despite the decay of the sector, our administration since assumption of office have commence rehabilitation of schools and provision of instructional materials to ensure effective service delivery” he stated.
The Governor further noted that his administration has paid the registration fees of all Kano indigenes studying at various higher institutions of learning across the nation.
“We’ve set aside over 300 hundred million to be disbursed to teachers as soft loans geared towards boosting their morale for effective service delivery”
The Governor also announced the approval for the comprehensive renovation of all primary and junior secondary schools in all the 44 Local Government Councils.
The renovation, according to the governor, will include providing students seats, painting, refurbishing of toilets and staff offices.
“This exercise will be completed in the next two academic sessions. CRC, Kwankwasiyya, Lafiya Jari, and Kano Pro-PA will be responsible for handling minor repairs while Ministry of
Education and SUBEB will shoulder all major repairs through competitive bidding” he added.
Earlier in hi opening address, the Commissioner for Education, Umar Doguwa, said the state government has approved the payment of NECO, NBAIS examination fees to over one hundred and eighteen thousand Kano indigenes in secondary schools writing the exams this year.
The ceremony attracted dignitaries from different states of the federation.
