The Federal University, Dutsinma (FUDMA), has, in recognition of Kabir Abubakar Bichi, awarded him with a Honorary Doctorate Degree of Engineering at its 9th convocation ceremony on Saturday.

Representing Bichi Federal Constituency, at the House of Representatives, he was on Saturday honoured for his service to humanity and the Nation.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Armayau Hamisu, said that Abubakar Bichi, also chairman House Committee on Appropriation, was awarded with the Doctor of Engineering (honoraris causa) by the institution in recognition of his contributions to the development of education in Nigeria.

Hamisu acknowledged that recently, Bichi offered fully funded sponsorship of 21 postgraduate students to study different engineering courses in Malaysia and also sponsors over 500 Bichi indigenes studying at various universities and colleges of educations across Nigeria.

He added that Bichi has brought several projects to the university which have improved it’s academic activities.

“My brother Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, Member House of Representatives, Bichi Federal Constituency and Chairman House Committee on appropriations has done so much through his oversight functions by giving funds to the Federal University Dutsin-Ma to build three faculties, one library, one female hostel and one auditorium.

“This is the reason today after awarding him with a degree, we have named one large auditorium after him, which he will commission as part of this activity” the VC said.

Speaking, Abubakar Bichi, after commissioning the 200-capacity auditorium named after him, assured the university that he will continue to work with his colleagues at the national assembly to prioritize the improvement of academic institutions to make them globally competitive.

He appreciated the institution for finding him worthy of the award.

“Universities in developed countries have utilized these means of fundings to significant effects. Nigerian universities should begin to adopt same measures as well.

“I want to assure you that I will continue to do those things that made the Federal University Dutsinma to recognize and honour me and do even better as I ask you to continue to support me in this regard.”

Hon Bichi was accompanied to the event by House of Representatives members from different geo-political zones, family, friends and well-wishers.
