The Managing Director of the Sabon Gari Market Abdul Bashir Hussain has explained why the management expelled the wheelbarrow hawkers from the market while reacting to a protest march staged by the wheelbarrow hawkers union.

He explained that a more conducive environment has been provided for the wheelbarrow hawkers to relocate to, before the decision was made, but they rejected the offer.

Hussein further explained that the presence of the wheel Barrow Traders causes a lot of havoc and security challenges in the routs of the market.

”Before we took this decision we invited all stakeholders, which include elders, security, members of the Wheelbarrow Traders Association and every concerned individual and explained the kind of inconveniences these they were causing in the market.

“We the offered them another place to move their trading materials for convenience and security of the market but they refused” he stated.

According to him, their activities tend to block routs in the market which causes congestion between men and women in the market and is against the teaching of Islam.

”We will not reverse our decision because it is in the interest of the general public.

“My advice to these Wheelbarrow Traders is to obey the rule of law and ensure that they conduct their businesses through legitimate means .

The traders operating mobile shops pushing wheelbarrows at Sabon Gari Market in Kano metropolis have taken to the streets to protest against their expulsion from the market.

The protesters accused the Managing Director of the market Abdul Bashir Hussain of forcing them out of the market.

The leader of the protesters who doubles as Secretary of the Borrow Group Organization, Sanusi Sale Abdallah said, despite surrendering themselves to the management of the market for necessary changes, the Sabon Gari Market Management insists on their expulsion.

“Immediately after he was sworn in he told us that he didn’t want us at the market, we told him we would adjust to new changes and he still insists we must leave,” Sanusi said.
