The Kano State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of two youths during a violent clash that erupted between rival thug groups at Darmanawa Quarters on Sunday.

The incident, which occurred around 11am saw armed hoodlums engaging in heavy fight which prompted a swift response from police that came to disperse them.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Haruna Kiyawa in a statement said that dispute erupted during a Gangi Event, a local hunters’ celebration, organised by a 59-year-old Muhammad Barde in preparation for the upcoming wedding of his children.

According to the police, the thugs took advantage of the supremacy fights during the programme to inflict injuries on three persons and damaging to innocent passersby vehicles.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel ordered the arrest of Barde alongside two other suspects who are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The fight escalated few hours later with several weapons on display by the armed hoodlums and later snowballed into confrontation with security personnel that responded to calm the situation.

The encounter led to the death of one Sadiq Abdulkadir, aged 23 years old, ‘m’, of Darmanawa Quarters, and Muhammad Sani, aged 22 years, ‘m’, of Sallari Quarters, Kano.

The Command said the police is currently conducting full-scale investigation on both circumstances, while notifying that the report will be made public.
