President Bola Tinubu has sworn in General Christopher Musa (retd.) as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, in less than two months after he was sacked as Chief of Defence Staff.

The ceremony took place on Thursday at the State House, Abuja.

Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff, was confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday following a five-hour screening, during which he was questioned on recent security lapses, including the withdrawal of troops from Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, just before schoolgirls were abducted on November 17.

He pledged to “immediately set up a full-scale investigation” into the troop withdrawal and to probe the killing of Brigade Commander Musa Uba in Borno State, along with attacks on other senior military officers.

Musa’s appointment follows the resignation of former Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru, who stepped down on health grounds.
