The former governor of Kano state, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau has called on the Federal Government to do more on security of lives and property of the citizens as well as the economy.
Shekarau made the call on Wednesday while responding to questions from newsmen at a press conference organized at his residence to commemorate his 70th birthday.
He lamented over the insecurity bedeviling the country and how people are losing their lives and property insisting that the government needs to do more.
Also quoting late Aminu Kano, Shekarau said whatever one will do to the economy will amount to nothing as long as people find it difficult to feed.
He called on the government to make food more accessible to citizens and peace will reign in the country.
“I cannot claim to know all the details of what they are doing. But on two fronts I know they are still tet to go above average.
“The issue of taking care of the insecurity challenges, a situation where people are being murdered, slaughtered like animals, is unacceptable.
“There is no nation without criminality, there is no nation without criminals. We are not saying government should eliminate criminality in total, is not real, that is why even God has created punishments for offences.
“But what we are saying is, bring criminality to the nearest minimum. It is doable, it can be done. We are praying, Allah will give the best people the opportunity to address this.
“The second issue is the economy. Whatever you do with economy, if I were to quote Malam Aminu Kano, whatever government does, so long as it does not create easy access to food is rubbish. Food is the most important thing in people’s lives.
“So id you are able to make easy access to food, with small money yoi can buy food to eat, then you have no problem with any problem in life.
“Government has the responsibility of security the lives and property of the people and let the people eat well. But when people are hungry, to hell with your hood roads, to hell with you schools, to hell with your hospitals, nobody will listen to you.
“But if you make it easy for people to eat and live well, people will be peaceful. I think this is my accessment of the government, I don’t want to go into details” Senator Shekarau stated.
