Senator Suleiman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South, on Saturday, interacted with the 550 students studying under his scholarship scheme.

The beneficiaries are currently studying Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Political Science, Sciences and other related course under the Senator Sumaila Scholarship Scheme at Al-Istiqama University Sumaila, Dan Sharif College of Nursing and Midwifery, as well as Rawafid College of Health and Midwifery.

Other institutions include Iqra College of Nursing and Sciences, Aminu Dabo College of Nursing and Sciences, Pyramid College of Health and Sciences and Jamilu Imperial College of Health and Technology.

Under the scheme, each benefiting student is enjoying a scholarship of not less than N450,000 annually in addition to the N10,000 monthly allowance per student.

It would be recalled that during the launching of the scholarship scheme, the Senator had promised constant supervision of the beneficiaries’ performances.

Speaking at the interactive meeting, Sen. Sumaila commended the students for their commitment to studies, saying “I am meeting you today for the first time since the commencement of your studies under my sponsorship.

“You will recall that during the launching of the scheme I promised effective supervision of your performance.

“We are meeting today to share our views and analyse the scheme to identify its successes and challenges in order to make it a success. You were selected for the scholarship from the 171 wards within Kano South.

“I am, therefore, urging you to be good ambassadors of your localities and Kano South wherever you find yourselves in the future,” he said.

At the end of meeting, Sen. Sumaila was conferred with various awards of honour by the managements of some of the institutions for offering scholarship to constituents from less privileged families across his senatorial district.
