The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has commenced the distribution of 69 trucks of fertiliser to farmers across the 44 local government areas of Kano state.

This is contained in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday by Ismail Mudashir, the Special Adviser Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate.

He explained that the distribution of the 69 trucks of fertiliser (41,400 bags) was flagged off on Tuesday in Danbatta and Makoda local government areas of Kano North Senatorial District.

The exercise was part of the efforts of the Deputy President of the Senate to support local farmers, improve agriculture and contribute to the attainment of food security in the country.

Flagging off the distribution on behalf of Senator Barau, his Chief of Staff, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdallahi, handed over 2,804 bags and 1,910 bags to the people of Danbatta and Makoda local government areas respectively.

Describing the gesture as the first of its kind in the history of Kano North, Professor Abdallah urged the farmers to use the fertiliser judiciously to enhance their output.

He said the fertiliser distribution is one of the many interventions of Senator Barau in Kano North and the state in general “which cut across all sectors of human development.”

“In the name of Allah, I flag off the distribution of fertiliser on behalf of the Deputy President of the Senate. This exercise will continue until we distribute 41,400 bags of fertiliser across the 44 LGAs of Kano state,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the people of Danbatta local government, Alhaji Dan Bayero commended the Deputy President of the Senate for the gesture, describing him as the people’s senator.

“We are lucky to have him; he is a leader who caters for the needs of his people. He has nothing at heart but the people of Kano North and Kano State. We wish him all the best,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries in Makoda local government, Tijjani Yakubu Salisu, thanked the Deputy President of the Senate, saying he had saved his farm with his gesture.

“From here, I will move straight to my farm. I don’t have fertiliser, but today, Senator Barau has saved my farm. This is Senator Barau for us. He has been doing and always doing for us. We can’t thank him enough. May Allah SWT bless him and reward him for always wiping away our tears,” he said.
