The 15 Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero has announced his withdrawal from the oncoming Sallah Durbar Celebration earlier announced saying that holding it is not a matter of life and death.

“We want to use this opportunity to let you know that the Sallah Durbar celebration to us is not a matter of life and death for which reason if it will become a source of breech of peace and generate violence that will lead to destruction of lives and property, then it has become compulsory on us to withdraw from it” he stated.

The 15th Emir of Kano, stated this in Kano Wednesday evening at the Nasarawa palace following consultations with religious leader, elders and council members.

Bayero reiterated the need to protect peaceful coexistence and ensuring lives and property of the people are not endangered in the name of holding Sallah Durbar Celebration, which is a tradition.

“Based on the leadership burden placed on us by Almighty Allah on which we promised to protect our faith, integrity, wealth, health and the peaceful coexistence of the people, with the current situation we are currently facing, it has become pertinent on is to withdraw all plans and arrangements we have earlier put in place for the Sallah Durbar celebration which is traditional.

“We hereby announce to all our people and at the same time pleading with them on this withdrawal of the Sallah Durbar celebration. This is necessary in order to protect the peace in Kano in particular and the country at large.

“This decision was reached following the advices we got from our respectful religious clerics that we hold in high esteem.

“More so, we have heeded to calls from leaders and elderly personalities around us as well as the consultation we had with our Emirate council.

“We pray this withdrawal of the Sallah Durbar celebration that we did will bring about more peaceful coexistence in our blessed state” he added.

He further called on the general public to use this opportunity to visit family and friends to enhance good relationship while congratulating them for the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.
