The National Assembly Re-run Election Tribunal in Katsina, has fixed April 23, for hearing of a petition by Jamilu Mohammed of PDP, challenging the victory of Dalhatu Shehu of APC into KanKara/Faskari/Sabuwa Federal Constituency.

The rerun election was conducted in 20 polling units of the constituency on Feb. 3, and later declared Dalhatu Shehu, of APC as winner.

During its sitting on Monday, the counsel to the petitioner, Johnson Usman, SAN, prayed the tribunal to cancel the rerun election in some poling units due to irregularities.

He further urged the tribunal to add the valid votes in the election to the outstanding results from the 2023 general elections, and declare Jamilu Mohammed PDP a winner.

In his submission, the lead counsel to the respondent, Nureini Jimoh, SAN, objected the submission of the petitioner’s counsel, saying the petition was incompetent.

Jimoh further argued that the petition did not include some vital information and many things were omitted

In his ruling, the Tribunal’s chairman, Justice K. A Ojiako, fixed April 23, for hearing the petition.

Ojiako said that the hearing would also go on day-to-day, and urged parties to be ready to present their witnesses for the cross examination.
