A High Court sitting in Kano has issued an interim injunction restraining the recently elected executive management committee of the Kano Civil Society (CSO) Forum, to hence forth desist from parading themselves as leaders of the forum in Kano

This is contained in the court’s order signed by the registrar under the hand seal of the presiding judge and dated 22nd August, 2024.

The injunction came following a case filed by some aggrieved members on behalf of the registered members of the Forum who were side-lined and excluded during the conduct of the election.

It could be recalled that, Kano Civil Society Forum Board of Trustees, appointed an electoral committee to organize a fair, credible and acceptable election, under the chairmanship of Hamisu Isa Sharifai.

However, some members felt sidelined with the conduct of the elections which they declare as full of irregularities, unprofessionalism, unfair treatment to many of the members that contested the elections, exclusion, and lack of neutrality and above all, was a total disregard to the genuine complaints of the majority of the registered members, totalling to about 100 organizations.

They added that, before the conduct of the elections on 8th June, 2024, many members of the Forum complained to the Board of Trustees of non – inclusion of many registered members, and requested the Board to postpone the elections in the interest of fairness and inclusion.

They further stated that unfortunately, and to their surprise, the Board refused to heed to the request of the members, and went ahead to authorize the conduct of the elections, despite the repeated demands by the members from all quarters.

The Kano State High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice Aisha Ya’u, in a motion experte dated 29th July, 2024, granted the request of the applicants and issued an interim injunction restraining those claimed to be elected, to stop parading themselves as executives of the Kano Civil Society Forum, pending the determination of the case, which is slated to come up for hearing on 10th September, 2024.

Consequently, by the said order of the court, the following individuals have been prohibited to present, address, act or parade themselves as elected executives of the Kano Civil Society Forum, henceforth:

Muhammad Bello, Fatima Musa Aliyu, Kabiru Ibrahim Ahmad, Salisu Yusuf, Barr. Aminu Sani Muhammad, Salisu Gambo Detol and Ali Wali.

Also included are Maryam Garba Usman, Dinatu Dama Maji, Ruqayya Abdulraman, Hassan Garba Baraya, and Barr. Umar Isah.

Others are Suleiman A A Haruna Ayagi, Barr. Fatima Aliyu Chabir and Buhari Abubakar Usman.
