The Kano state Governor Abba Yusuf has promised to continue to provide support for the police force and the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) in the state.

He stated this while receiving the president of the POWA, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun and wife of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun and her entourage in his office on Monday.

Governor Yusuf also appreciated the wife of the IG saying she has taken after the first lady of the federation, Mrs Bola Tinubu in assisting widows, assisting children and making empowerments.

“Let me say that I am not surprised with all the good works accredited to the POWA president. As for me, she has taken after the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mrs Bola Ahmad Tinubu.

“Mrs Bola Ahmad Tinubu has also been one woman on Nigeria that has been assisting the less privileged people in all the 36 states including the FCT.

“She has been going round the states giving her own contribution, empowering women, assistant the children of the less privileged people through various skills acquisitions, through various empowerments.

“So the president of POWA has also taken after her. From what I have just heard, she has been going round the states, assisting widows, assisting children, through various empowerments.

“I have just learnt that you are going round the states commissioning boreholes, hospitals, making empowerments.

“Let me use this opportunity to assure you that the government of Kano state is with you” he stated.

The governor further promised to not only provide a land for the POWA befitting headquarters in the state, but also provide funds for the building.

Earlier in her address, the POWA president expressed the need to support the wives and families of the police officers and men to enhance the commitment of the men.

She also commended the commitment of the state governor to security, development and welfare of the people of Kano.

“Under you visionary leadership, Kano has continued to thrive as a beacon of progress, innovation and cultural heritage.

“This inspires our effort as POWA, where we strive to complement the work of our police officers by empowering their families and their neighbouring communities to foster stability and peace across the country” she started.

She added that, “we believe that when police families are empowered, our officers are better equiped to focus on their primary duties, especially the protection of lives and property”.

The POWA president has earlier commissioned the Kano Secretariat of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA).
