Environmental Challenges: NAGGW Trains Stakeholders From Northwest On Modalities

The Federal Government has reaffirmed it’s determination in addressing the environmental challenges bedeviling national development especially in the Northwest region.

The Director General of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) Yusuf Maina disclosed this during the opening ceremony of a stakeholders forum for northwest, organized by the agency recently in Kano.

Dr Bukar represented by the Director, Resource Mobilization and Partnership Building said the aim of the stakeholders meeting was to enhance synergy that would help in combatting desertification, deforestation and restoration of degraded lands .

He noted that the agency has played a critical role in galvanizing attention towards addressing challenges associated with climate change and other environmental issues .

The Director General maintained that NAGGW was committed in ensuring that synergies were being enhanced with states and local governments, civil society organizations, community leaders, youth and women groups, and person with disabilities among others.

He urged participants to take full advantage of the meeting in building a deliberate consensus policy that would address the menace of climate change.

Speaking while presenting a paper titled Tackling Food Insecurity through Enhancement of Agro forestry, Professor Alhassan Danladi from the Faculty of Agriculture, Usman Danfodio University Sokoto said Agro Forestry is the way out for addressing challenges of climate change and other environmental issues.

In their separate remarks Salam Aminu Lawal from Miyetti Allah Kebbi State and Alhaji Nasiru Sarkin Fulani Achida Sokoto applauded the foresight of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall for Organizing the stakeholders forum, adding that it will go along way in fine tuning modalities of addressing environmental challenges.

The workshop themed Building Multi-Stakeholders Responsiveness in the Implementation of the Great Green Wall programme in Nigeria attracted participants from the states of Northwest geopolitical zone of the federation.
