The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, on Friday, inaugurated Community Students Hostel built for Sumaila Local Government students studying in Kano.

Inaugurating the project in Wailari quarters, Lagbaja said the project was part of the efforts by the Nigerian Army to encourage learning in the state.

He said that the Special Intervention Project was initiated by his office to support communities of serving senior officers of the Nigerian army, who rose to the enviable rank of Major Generals through dedication to duty and service to the nation.

Lagbaja, represented by the GOC One Division, Kaduna, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, said that the project would complement the existing infrastructure in the state, promote and strengthen civil-military cooperation in the benefitting communities.

According to him, the initiative will further serve as an avenue for the military to associate with the communities.

He congratulated the Project Executor, Maj.- Gen. Sani Ibrahim, who is the Commandant, Nigerian Army Institute of Science Education and Technology, on the timely completion of the project and the quality of work done.

Lagbaja also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his continuous strategic ideas and support to the Nigerian Army.

In a remark, the Army Chief of Civil Military Relations, Maj.-Gen. Nosakhare Ugbo, commended COAS for funding the project and giving back to Nigerians as well as putting smiles on the faces of the benefitting communities.

He described the projects as products of healthy symbiotic relationship between the military and civilian population.

Ugbo called on Kano residents to support and provide credible and timely intelligence to security agencies to enhance their operations.

He further urged the natives of the benefitting community to make best use of the facility.

Earlier in an address, the project executor said that the projects would further enhance the image of the Nigerian Army and commended the Army Chief for instituting the programme.

Ibrahim said that the hostel, which had three dometries with 30 bunks and a water borehole, would cater for many students of the community.

The lawmaker representing Kano South Senatorial District, Sen. Kawu Sumaila, lauded the Nigerian Army for establishing the project, stating that it would go a long way in helping the students of higher education in the area.

Some of the students, who spoke to our correspondent thanked COAS for the gesture.
