The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Prof Abdurrahman Sheshe, has dismissed claims by a Lady aired on the human rights program online, Berekete Family, that her womb was illegally removed in the hospital, saying it is false.

The CMD stated this on Tuesday while delivering an address at the 1st International Conference organized in Kano by the African Centre Of Excellence For Population Health And Policy (ACEPHAP) in collaboration with Bayero University Kano.

Last week, a lady was on Berekete Family Arewa program alleged that her womb was removed at AKTH without her consent in 2017.

She alleged that she was admitted at the hospital for delivery of her baby claiming that immediately her husband took her to the hospital, she was induced after being taken into labour room and she subsequently lost consciousness.

According to the lady, it was after the 6th day that she came back alive asking for her baby and was told that the baby was brought out dead and later discovered that her womb was removed.

The CMD dismissed her claim as false, insisting that all ethical steps of the profession required before any caesarean session were taken observed.

“Many of us have heard the program that wa aired on Berekete, one social media program, ‘Berekete Family’ in which the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital was castigated that they have removed the womb of one lady without her consent.

“Such media should be avoided because many of you here know that there are so many holes in that presentation that were made by the lady.

“I wish to make you know that they are complete lies, completely. The woman was presented around 12:30 with ruptured fetus and the document is there, which was in. 2012.

“She was presented to the labour room, she was examined at 12:30 am and an operation of caesarean session was performed, the child was already outside the womb with plenty of blood inside and the child was already dead.

Before the operation a consent was signed. The hospital signed and somebody representing the patient also signed. So all the documents are there.

The uterus was taken to the theatre, because the next thing she will say that we chopped the uterus. This was in 2012.

“There is no way an unethical issue like that could be committed inside the hospital. So is really unfortunate. I don’t see how such medium will be allowed, it gives the impression that all the previous cases that have been treated are all the sam.

“They are trying to be more sensational so that they will get more likes and more money. I don’t know how it is being done.

He further stated that there might be some other intentions behind such allegations by the medium because the federal ministry of health, in September last year, had started a program of free caesarean operation for women who could not afford.

The program is undertaken in the Murtala Muhammed Hospital, Nasarawa Specialist Hospital and the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano which many are enjoying the services.

He claimed also that the allegation may be the plan to stop the program which is enjoyed by many. He, however, said that they will join hands with the federal ministry of health to find a way out.
