Having recently been declared wanted by the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the immediate past Governor of Kogi state has been placed on the watchlist by Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
This is contained on a letter-headed notice from the NIS with reference number NIS/HQ/IAC/INV/15621, dated 18th April, 2024 and signed by the Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (Suspect Index) DS Umar on behalf of the Comptroller General of Immigration.
The notice is addressed to the Director General, Department of State Services, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General, National Intelligence Agency, ACG i/c (PRS), All Zonal Coordinators and All Control Posts.
The notice also reveals the International Passport number, B50083321, of immediate past Governor of Kogi state Yahaya Bello. However, his date of birth is not written.
“I am directed to inform you that the above named has been placed on watchlist.
“Suffice to mention that the subject is being prosecuted in the Federal High Court, Abuja for Conspiracy, Breach of Trust and Money Laundering” part of the notice stated.
It explained further that it was reference to a letter received by the NIS dated 18th April, 2024 from the EFCC. It instructed that if seen at any entry or exit point, he should be arrested and referred to the Director of Investigation.
It would be recalled that barely 24 hours earlier the EFCC had declared the former Kogi strong man wanted after its inability to arrest him at his residence. He is charged for fraud to the tune of N80.2 billion.
