Residents of Kano and other neighbouring states have commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Comrade Abubakar Yusuf, as Commissioner in the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Some of the people interviewed by our correspondents in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, described Comrade Yusuf as a go-getter, pointing out that he would bring his experience to bare by taking the commission to another level.
They further described Comrade Yusuf as a seasoned administrator who has contributed immensely in ensuring steady supply of electricity in the places he had previous worked, handling delicate issues, maintaining that Comrade Yusuf is a round peg, in a round hole, who would assist greatly in turning around the fortunes of the commission.
They therefore decried the condemnation that greeted the appointment of Comrade Yusuf by some very few individuals, attributing the ugly development to bad politics, even as they assured President Tinubu that Comrade Yusuf would deliver in his new assignment.
Muhammad Amin, a resident of Kano metropolis wondered why some people would just sit in one place criticising a personality they never had an encounter with, saying such ugly trend of bringing people down at all cost, has seriously retarded the growth of the country.
He added that ” those saying he cannot do the job don’t even know him. This is a personality that has done very well in his previous areas of assignment. Ask those he had worked with, they will tell you he has used his position to ensure harmonious coexistence between the management and the staff in his previous assignments”, he stressed.
Also speaking, Abdullahi Shehu said as Managing Director of Kano Electricity Distribution Company, Comrade Yusuf never rested on his oars, in ensuring that things moved on smoothly, which contributed greatly in improving the supply of electricity in Kano and its environs.
Musa Usman, a resident of Dutse, the capital of Jigawa state also in an interview, described Comrade Yusuf as an administrator, who has acquired enough experience in a familiar terrain, adding that he strongly believed in his ability to do well in his new assignment.
In her reaction, Hafsat Umar said its not healthy for someone to be unreasonably condemning others, saying appointment and other favours come from God Almighty, pointing out that those who are not bestowed at the moment may equally be favoured next time.
Equally, Liman Kurfi, a resident of Katsina, the Katsina State capital, said although the job of ensuring steady supply of power to Nigerians is not all that easy, but there is no denying the fact that Comrade Yusuf has tried his best while holding forth as the Managing Director of Kano Electricity Distribution Company.
