A non governmental organization, Sightsavers Nigeria, has conducted a four days training for physically Challenged women on entrepreneur skills in Kano to make them self-reliant.

Speaking during the distribution of start-up kits to the 100 hundred beneficiaries at Murtala Mohammed Library Kano, the Sightsavers Program Officer, Girls Education, Sightsavers Nigeria, Anita Kelvin said the aim of the training is to help the young women identify businesses and modalities of enhancing the businesses.

“The whole idea is that young women with disabilities are among the vulnerable and marginalized people within the society, and because of that we’ve taken surveys and asked them questions and realized that they need certain skills, one of these skills is how to start and sustain a business.

“Today we are empowering one hundred beneficiaries but we are targeting four hundred beneficiaries in the near future.

“The start-up kits we are dishing out to the beneficiaries include tooth paste close- up, Pears Baby products, and other cooking materials” she stated.

Anita Nchat Kelvin further explained that the partners supporting the program includes Uniliver and GBF growing Business Foundation, while So Sightsavers is implementing the Project.

Fiddausi Mohammad Umar and Amina Jibrin Shuaibu were among the beneficiaries of the training, they applauded Sightsavers and other partners for organizing the training and empowerment.

They promised to make adequate utilization of the training and the start-up parks provided, aimed at becoming self reliant.
