The immediate past minister of Youths and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung has revealed that the Nigerian government is funding a counter protest ahead of the planned nationwide hunger protest.
He made the revelation in video on his verified TikTok, which has gone viral, where he spoke for … minutes in Hausa describing the plan as a wrong step to take.
He mentioned names of high profile Nigerians that are expected to speak at the government planned protests under the auspices Coalition For The Protection of Democracy, saying they are going to be led by the Edo state governor Adams Pshomole and Senator Shehu Sani (Comrade).
They are planning to protest against any planned military takeover in Nigeria, which Dalung sees as diversionary and unnecessary.
Dalung further explained that in all their preparations towards the nationwide hunger protest by Nigerians, they have never called on the military to takeover government. They have only called on them to clampdown on the bandits and terrorists to secure the nation and protect the lives of Nigerians, “that is what they are paid for”.
“Terrorists have taken over villages and expelled innocent farmers from their lands, we want the military to clampdown on them and and secure Nigerians but not to takeover” he said.
He however alleged that with this kind of plan, the government is planning to handover to the military behind the scene because they have lost focus on governance. “They are using this to frame the planned nationwide hunger protest, we cannot be tricked, we are staging our protest” he said.
He mentioned further that the government planned protest is coming up on the 23rd of July at Unity Fountain in Abuja, adding that this will encourage them to come out for the Nationwide protest.
