The Katsina State chapter of the Children’s Parliament, has called on the state Government to provide all the schools across the state with solar powered boreholes.
According to the parliament, the call was to ensure that children in the state have access to potable and safe drinking water.
The children made the call on Sunday in Katsina during a plenary at the state’s assembly chamber.
The session was part of a 3-day capacity building training organized for the children on policy making process.
The plenary was organized by the Save the Children International (SCI), in collaboration with the state government.
The programme is under the philanthropic integrated health and nutrition project.
The plenary presided over by the Speaker of the parliament, Fadila Sani also called on the state government to facilitate the speedy implementation of the state’s Child Protection Law (CPL).
On Dec. 22, 2023, Gov. Dikko Radda signed into law the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) and the Child Protection Laws passed by the state assembly.
According to the parliament’s speaker, the implementation of the law in the state became necessary, in order to enhance the education of the children.
The children’s parliament also called on the state government to facilitate the implementation, making the national basic education certificate compulsory in all schools in the state.
They also advocated the need to include climate science education into schools’ curriculum for understanding to fight against the effect of climate change in the state.
